Delivery Food Services are here to stay!
Are we getting lazier as a nation or is it simply that we're working harder than ever before and so need more push button, automation, and help in the home than ever before? Who knows, I guess only previous generations are truly qualified to make the comparison, but if we look at food for example, I don't think the delivery food services around today are really anything new, just different.
Back in the good ole days, there used to be the bakers vans in the UK, and the local baker would go door to door selling freshly baked breads, cookies, tarts and the like. Then there were the milkmen who would deliver fresh pasteurized milk to our doors every morning along with yogurts, fresh creams, and flavored shakes if we wanted them. So there have been delivery food services in place for donkey's years, but the choices, methods, and speed of the food delivery was much different.
Chinese takeaways have been in existence since the year dot, so have fish & chip shops. Now although none of these types of businesses had any kind of delivery food services in place, they did offer a phone-in service where customer's could order their food over the phone and stop by 15 minutes later to collect their meals. But even fish and chip shops and Chinese takeaways have been forced to offer food delivery services to their customers nowadays, just so they can stay in competition.
In the twenty first century delivery food services are literally everywhere and it's possible to get just about any meal you desire transported to you front door without even leaving your armchair. A lot of cable TV companies now offer limited internet access via the television, and it's not uncommon for folks to tap a few keys on their cordless keyboard and have freshly made Pizza or roast dinners ordered through their TV sets.
Order steaks online, fresh seafood online, and even organic food for the really health conscious among us! Organic food delivery is becoming ever more popular as it removes the struggle of finding organic food within driving distance of the home. But what's happened to good old traditional shopping for food, preparation, and cooking? Are we really so busy that we're often too tired or too occupied to cook a home meal? Or perhaps we're just not into taking care of the family in the traditional way anymore.
Now you can call me old fashion here, but I always thought that meals times were supposed to be at the heart of the family unit. A time where everyone gets to sit down together and chat about their day and communicate with other family members!
Now we see parents and their kids all eating different meals at different times and in different rooms. What the heck is that all about? Dad stops by at an eatery on the way home and grabs a quick bite to eat. Mum may call up the local Chinese delivery food hotline for her dinner treat, while the kids might be browsing the delivery fast food services online and order a Big Mac with soggy French fries.
And if all these delivery food services are not over convenient as it is, we now have many establishments offering a 24 hour food delivery hotline, so we can munch away all day and all night if we like, with less effort than it takes to knock up a ham sandwich.
Love them or loathe them, the fast food delivery service is here to stay, and it doesn't stop at grub either. We can now dial a haircut, order a maid for the day or just about anything else our hearts desire. Hey, who knows, as time goes by and we keep evolving as a race, perhaps nature will eventually release us from the burden of our own legs. Hmm, now there's a thought
