Getting Mail Order Meat - a new way to shop!
By Sam Junior
Every type of meat imaginable can be ordered through the mail. Would you have ever thought it feasible? Mail order meat can be so easy to buy whether you are looking or a steak for you or 100 steaks for a family barbecue. Just get a leg of lamb, a rack of lamb, a succulent roast pork loin or stuffed pork chops brought right to your door. Yep, mail order meat can bring you any type of meat product you like.
There are many different businesses which offer this service. Purchasing meat through the mail is easy and convenient but there are some things that the consumer must be aware of since meat is a perishable item. The mail order food industry has a good record for safety but meat ordered through the mail can still cause safety issues.
Meat that is sent through the mail must be packed cold or frozen in a chilled source and should be packed in heavy corrugated cardboard or foam. Mail order meat should arrive to you as soon as possible after shipment as overnight delivery is the most ideal way. When you receive the mail order meat if it states that it should be refrigerated check the temperature of the meat as it should still be frozen or partially frozen. If the mail order meat arrives warm contact the company in which you ordered from and do not eat the meat as it can be contaminated and cause you to become sick.
There are some shelf products that do not involve refrigeration. Mail order meat of this kind, as it does not need to be refrigerated, can keep longer than other types of meat. Some of these items are dry sausages, dry cured hams, jerky, and meat snacks.
When ordering you should talk to the company that is shipping the meat and ask them what type of cold source will be used to keep the meat cold and how long the meat will be in transit. When you find out how long the transit time will be for the mail order meat set a delivery date with the company. Make sure you will pick up the meat if it is not shipped directly to your door as perishable meats can spoil if they are not picked up for several days. Make sure the company that sends the mail order meat labels the box by placing on the box, in easy to read labels, “perishable food”. By labeling the box in this way it can help to make sure that the mail order meat is delivered on time.
So there you have it, food mail order companies now offer mail order meats in with their list of mail order shopping products. Mail order food really has become a convenient home shopping option for busy folks.
